Asher's birth

We decided to be induced again with this baby, because I was done being pregnant and we had to have the baby before Paul left town again.  They scheduled us at midnight on Halloween.  We spent the evening carving pumpkins and then taking the kids trick or treating.  I was really worried I would get a call saying they were too busy and would have to reschedule but luckily that never happended.  We got there and after getting all hooked up to the monitors and iv's, they finally started the pitocin at 1:30 am.  The anethesiologist came in to talk about the epidural and suggested I just get it before it got busy.  I had my epidural by 3 am even though I wasn't feeling any contractions.  We were finally left alone to get some rest.  Paul fell right to sleep and even though I was tired I couldn't sleep. I started getting contractions and they would get stronger and closer togehter and then just stop.  This went on for several hours, I was beginning to get really frustrated.  Just like with Greydon I had a lot of fluid and the baby was really high.  I needed them to break my water but we had to wait for the doctor to come and do it. I then started to get sick, I was super nauseous and threw up several time.  Dr. Sauter finally came in a little after 9 am to break my water.  Again like with Grey they were a little nervous to do it because the baby was high and they didn't want the cord to slip out so they guided his head down when they broke my water.  I told them there would be a ton of fluid but they didn't believe me until they saw it and pretty soon they were grabbing for more towels.  At this point I was only dilated 5-6cm.  Once the baby wasn't floating around things moved pretty quickly, just before 11  I felt like pushing so Dr. Sauter was called.  He arrived about 20 minutes later and the pushing began.  At first they told me to do two rounds of pushing but after the second push they all started yelling for me to keep pushing.  Asher's heart rate dropped and they wanted him out fast so two more pushes and he was out.  The cord was wrapped around his neck and as  Dr. Sauter went to unwrap it the cord tore and blood sprayed everywhere.  Dr. Sauter turned to Paul and said he had never seen that happen before (Scary!!!), he quickly clamped the cord off and everything was fine. And thankfully I knew nothing about his heart rate dropping or the cord tearing until after it all happened.  Asher was nice and healthy and weighed 7 lbs 14oz and was 19.5 inches.  He did come out a little bruised and swollen because he came down the birth canal so fast.  The hospital was really busy and they had no rooms to move me to so I stayed in the labor and delivery room which was nice because the room is so big but the bed was super uncomfortable.  My mom brought the kids to visit that afternoon.  Leila was so excited to hold Asher, Greydon was a little bit nervous and didn't quite know what to think.

Right before we left for the hospital, I was huge.  I am so glad to have him out and be able to bend over and sleep on my stomach again

Paul took this picture right before I began pushing
Asher being checked out by his nurse Carrie, she was great and such a good cheerleader and is actually our neighbor

Asher and Dr. Sauter.  He is such a great doctor and I am so glad I switched to him

Me and baby!

Paul giving Asher his first bath

This is when the kids first arrived. (And don't mind me showing off so much leg, I had a fever and was dying of heat and had to have the blankets removed)

Going home, he wasn't very happy to be in his car seat

We are so happy to have Asher here and I am so lucky to have three healthy, wonderful kids!

The hospital

Here are some pictures of the first day Asher joined our family and when the kids were first able to meet him.  My friend Emily came and took some pictures for us and I just love the way they turned out!  There are a ton of pictures, I couldn't decide which ones to leave out so I basically put them all on here.  And I will soon get the birth story, Grey's birthday and a bunch of other things but life has been busy and three kids has really been a change but it's been good and we all just adore our little Asher.
