Kansas City

Leila had spring break starting on March 14th.  Back in June or July when Paul got his schedule for the year we decided to have him request time off for her spring break week.  We thought about doing a trip and bounced several ideas around but when it came down to it we really didn't have the money for a vacation.  At the end of February our friends down in Kansas City mentioned that they had the same spring break and would love visitors.  We decided to take them up on the offer and so did our other friend Robyn.  We drove down on Sunday afternoon and stayed until Tuesday night.  It was a great getaway and we had a lot of fun.  Sunday we just hung out and visited and let the kids play.  On Monday we had a slow morning  before deciding to go to the Kansas City zoo.  The weather said it was going to be in the 50's but it really was only in the high 30's.  On top of that I didn't bring a stroller (last week at our zoo i pushed around an empty stroller the entire time), I didn't take into account that this zoo was like 10 times bigger so we had so tired kids at the end of the day.  But we still had lots of fun!

The penguins were a big hit,  they sat and watched them for about 10  minutes until we dragged them away to see more animals.  In the end we probably should have just stayed with the penguins because we ended up doing a bunch of walking and not seeing very  many animals.

They all fell asleep about 1 minute into our drive home.

We got back to Paige's house about 15 minutes before Robyn arrived with her girls.  The kids played a bunch while the rest of us relaxed on the couches (the adults were tired from the zoo).  That night after the kids went to bed we had brownies and ice cream and stayed up late talking.

The next morning Paige and Robyn offered to watch our kids so we could go to the temple.  When we got back we had a quick lunch and headed downtown to Kaleidoscope.  We barely made in time for the 1 o'clock session.  It is a free art/activity museum for the kids.  They get to make all sort of art projects and just be creative.  After that we went to the Hallmark Welcoming Center and then to Union Station to see the train museum.  It was a fun afternoon!  We decided to to take out from Oklahoma Joe's, we had to try Kansas City BBQ while in Kansas City.  It did not disappoint!  Paige made  homemade mac 'n cheese for the kids while the adults all enjoyed their take out.  Our kids have a love for BBQ, especially ribs and they kept sneaking some of our food.  We  hung around until about 7 PM and then headed on home.  The kids fell asleep for the entire drive home and then went straight to bed.  Thank you Paige for hosting us, feeding us and disrupting your children's sleep schedules.

That looks like a fun trip! I'm glad you were able to get away and see your friends.
