Our travels

*Travels to Ohio
On July 1st Paul and I headed for Ohio.  We got a really late start because we decided last minute we needed new tires on the car, Paul had to meet with the Dean to get his Dean's letter done and it always seems to take forever to finally get on the road.  Our destination for the day was Denver Colorado, about 13 hours from Vegas.  We didn't get in until about 2 in the morning and the saddest part was that we drove through the beautiful rocky mountains in the dark and didn't get to enjoy any of the beautiful scenery.  We slept in and then headed for Kansas City, only about 10 hours away.  The drive was pretty much what I expected flat and lots of grain fields.  We did get a good laugh at all of the museums that are in Kansas, every single town has some kind of museum they are trying to get travelers to stop at.  The next mroning we were finally able to go to one of the Diner's Drive inns and Dives we wanted to go to YJ's Snack Bar.  We actually barely found it, it was a tiny little place in the middle of downtown Kansas City.  But I'm so glad we didn't miss it, our breakfast there was so good.  I got the American breakfast which had the most delicious pancakes and hashbrowns and Paul got the Southern breakfast which had the best tasting sausage gravy.  We then headed fro Dayton Ohio, I couldn't believe how green everything was, I was loving all the trees such a change from Nevada.  We made it to Dayton aroudn 10 pm and then stayed up way to late talking with Melissa and Steve.  We had a pretty uneventful trip which we are thankful for but had a lot of fun just hanging for three days.

*4th of July
I was really sad I missed the 4th of July with my kids.  Paul and I had just made it to Dayton, Ohio the night before.  Paul and I went and explored the city, went out to lunch and went and saw Super 8.  Then that afternoon we went to the Beavercreek town parade with the Rich's,  their little girl Kate was in the parade.  Right before the parade started we got poured on, it actually felt pretty nice since it was pretty warm but it made it super humid.  After the parade we headed over to the park for fireworks.  I was bad and didn't take a single picture of us.

My kids went to the Sandy parade with their Grandparents and Erin, Chad and Logan.

After the parade they went back to my parents house to do sparklers and fireworks.  But the biggest hit was the little poppers that the kids could throw on the ground

Then the kids all enjoyed cupcakes while they watched fireworks.
*Travel Home
I left Dayton on Wednesday afternoon and arrived back in Vegas really late that night.  The flights were super uncomfortable and I should have picked an aisle seat vs. a window seat so that I could get up and move around easier.  Plus United airlines airplanes are just really uncomfortable.  My flight the next morning from Vegas to Salt Lake was super long too, because of my like 5 hour lay over in Long Beach plus I was just sick of traveling by that point but at least Jet Blue airplanes are a lot more comfortable.  I was so happy to finally see my kids, it was a nice break but I really missed them.  I was also really happy to not be using public bathrooms anymore between the 3 days of travel across the US and then the two days of airport travel and being pregnant I was done with public restrooms.

Paul has loved it in Dayton Ohio, he really likes the program and the people he works with.  Plus he totally lucked out and is the only student there this month, so he is getting lots of time in the OR and getting to know the residents, doctors and program director really well.   And after seeing the city I could be happy there too but there are still lots more programs to visit so we'll see how it all works out.

Hey! It sounds like you had fun on your cross country tour. We are doing the same thing, leaving this Friday for Columbus. I'm kind of excited for some quiet time. I'm glad Paul likes the Dayton program so well. We need to get together next week when I get back.
